The Bull City Woodshop is a non-profit, youth-centered program that guides individual development, fosters community connection, and cultivates creativity through woodworking.
We offer after school programs for students, day-time classes for alternative school students, and evening and weekend classes for adults to teach woodworking.
We are currently looking for woodturning volunteers in two specific opportunities.
1) Weekly: Our student program consists of multiple levels of hands-on learning and accomplishment. We would like to include a woodturning project in each level, but in order to accommodate this, we need a woodturner available for each class. Our class schedule is Mondays and Thursdays 1-3pm and Mondays-Thursdays 4:30-6:30 pm. We currently run 3 semesters per year: Jan-May, June-Aug, Sep-Dec. This commitment would be once per week for appx 2.5 hours. Our January semester starts on January 22nd.
2) We are piloting a program in partnership with Havenhouse in Raleigh. We would like to offer community service hours to teens who need to accomplish these hours. They can learn the skill of woodturning and then donate the items they make in order to qualify their time as community service. This would be a once a month commitment for appx 4-5 hours on a Saturday.
