  • Hybrid: Live at NCSU Crafts Center and by IRD Broadcast via Zoom
  • Zoom call opens a 6:15 for socializing
  • Meeting begins at 6:45 PM
  • Demonstration begins at 7 PM

Please join us on November 12th for our annual members "Small Projects" Demonstrations.  This year we are happy to welcome Joaquin Juatai, otherwise known as "JJ" and Steve Alexander as our demonstrators.  Both demonstrators are long time turners and  will present a "new twist" on some familiar forms.

Steve will be demonstrating how he makes small cross grain boxes like those shown in the photo on the left.  In general cross-grain boxes are easier to turn than end-grain boxes and Steve will show the techiniques he uses.

JJ will demonstrate his miniature threaded acorn box earrings, a project as fun to turn as the finished project is to give away. This project features very fine motor skills, relies on steady tool control, and utilizes the mechanical accuracy of Baxter's Thread Master to cut 20TPI threads in a ⅜" mortise and matching tenon.

We are looking forward to both these project demos and hope you all will join us for the fun.

About our Demonstrators:

Steve Alexander:  My father had a lathe, so I have been turning on and off for about 70 years.  I got much more serious about 30 years ago.
My wife and I just moved to the Raleigh area 5 months ago to be closer to one of our sons and his family.  We lived the previous 30 years in Columbia, MO where I was a professor of molecular biology at the University of Missouri.
I was a founding member of the Mid-Missouri Woodturners club in Columbia.

Joaquin Juatai:  Joaquin aka "JJ"
is a Veteran, author, and artist whose post US Navy journey lead him to woodturning as therapy. Along the way, he has put his Navy Journalist experience to work developing the skills and knowledge necessary to teach woodturning to an ever widening audience.

JJ turns live almost daily to an international audience in the hundreds and thousands on TikTok, is the newlsetter Editor and a board member of the World Wide Woodturners Club, and is a tool representative for Best Wood and Robust Tools.

You can find Wah-tie Woodturning on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and find JJ when you join the free weekly World Wide Woodturners Club meeting via Zoom, where he demonstrates as well.
